Our mission statement:
“To enhance the quality of life for the community of Central Washington by providing high quality home medical equipment and supplies with a compassionate touch.”
Howard’s team lives our mission statement every day in our work. We have to earn the trust and respect of our customers during each and every encounter so that the customer makes the decision to choose our superior service. Our high-quality equipment includes wheelchairs, CPAP machines, oxygen, home safety supplies, lift chairs, and much more. But, we don’t sell medical items and medications so much as we sell service and service is provided by people.
Everyone one is capable of kindness, generosity, and patience, but in the midst of work day busyness these things can be difficult to always remember to exhibit. At Howards we are customer service business and strive to remember that service is about caring. The business we are in is to serve the customers and it is our jobs to make their experience a gratifying one. I want to pass on a few ideas we have about customer service and how we try to approach our work.
Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others, unsuccessful people are always more concerned about “what’s in it for me.” At Howard’s we use self-reflection as an important tool. No one is perfect, but as humans, we have a fatal tendency to exaggerate the faults of others and minimize the gravity of our own. We want to be honest with ourselves about how we treat others and how we approach our work. Everyone of is going to make mistakes, but mistakes are just an opportunity to learn and better ourselves.
One thing we all are mindful about is our attitude towards our work, co-workers and patients/providers/customers. If we shift our mindset and look at our work as a ministry towards serving others for the Lord, it helps us to display kindness, generosity, and patience. Colossians 3:23 says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” In other words, hard work for God will bring rewards of good things, growth, freedom, advancement, honor and praise, from God and others.
Every customer that comes through our doors is experiencing a health issue either with themselves or a loved one. Not one individual really wants to be a customer of Howard’s, they are here out of necessity. At Howard’s we strive to have empathy for every person that steps through our doors or calls us on the phone. We know that the least we can do is to make it a positive experience for them and maybe bring a smile to their face. Each encounter has value in serving and working for the Lord and if we have a joyful heart in our work we can bring joy to others.
